Mark Lewis, professor and chair of the Clark School's Department of Aerospace Engineering, is leaving that position to become the new director of the Science and Technology Policy Institute at the Institute of Defense Analyses.

Lewis is immediate past president of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and former chief scientist of the U.S. Air Force. His research interests are in hypersonic aerodynamics, advanced propulsion and engine-airframe interaction. He is an AIAA Fellow as well as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. In addition, Lewis is an Aviation Week & Space Astronautics Laureate.

Lewis has been a professor at the Clark School since 1988 and has served as chair since 2009.

"Under his tenure, the aerospace engineering department has racked up many successes," said Clark School Dean Darryll Pines. "I'm sure the Institute of Defense Analyses Science and Technology Policy Institute will see similar successes under his leadership."

Information about an interim chair and a search for a new chair will be forthcoming in the near future.
