At the 39th International Conference on Environmental Systems (ICES) in Savannah, Georgia, the University of Maryland received nearly half of the awards in the student poster competition. Rising sophomore, Justin Brannan tied for third place with his poster about his SSL research on a testing system for advanced space suit joints, a continuation and extension of his ENAE100 project, which took first place last fall in the ENAE100 project judging.
Heather Bradshaw earned first place for her poster on the measurement of motion properties for a space suit morphing upper torso. Significant contributions and support to this project came from Dr. J. Sean Humbert, his graduate students and Vicon system. Both Heather and Justin were ably mentored by Shane Jacobs. A noteworthy fact is that Heather and Justin were the only two undergrad entries up against a number of Ph.D. research posters.
